Whence?

Hallo, my name is Adam, and welcome to The Wandering Anglican 3.0...

Why is my weblog named thus? Let's take it in pieces, presented in a very Tarantinoesque order:

Anglican - This designates my faith tradition. I (along with my wife and two boys) are members of The Episcopal Church, particularly as it is located in the Diocese of Chicago. Great, you're thinking, another fussy Anglican blog where we hear nothing but Communion this, and Covenant that. Well, it is not my intent to address the various, and nefarious, goings-on and general controversies that may or may not lead to complete schism in this corner of Christendom, at least on any regular basis. I may be fussy at times (I am a fairly staunch Anglo-catholic), but I hope to avoid controversy for controversy's sake. As far as where I actually stand on the issues of the day, my links and blogroll (once completed) should make that reasonably apparent.

The - I've always preferred the definite article, what can I say?

Wandering - Referring primarily to the phrase "prone to wander" from my favorite hymn, this adjective also describes who I am, and does so very aptly. I love exploration by chance, discovery through surprise, and finding meaning on accident. I am a dreamer, a mystic, and a nomad, and I make no apologies for this. This also means that this little outpost will address far more than life in the Anglican milieu, thanks be to God. That will be the touchpoint for much of what I hope to write, but I will also likely cover the arts and culture (both highbrow and lowbrow, probably with more of the latter), social justice and civil rights, history and politics, philosophy and theology, and hopefully more than a small dose of humor and the celebration of life.

3.0 - This being my third attempt at a semi-serious blog, as in one that is updated at least weekly and contains content that is valuable to at least someone besides myself, I intend to avoid the pitfalls that derailed previous efforts while maintaining a consistent level of quality.

So, there's what to expect in a nutshell. Here's hoping that what I attempt here finds an appreciative audience.
